Libby Joseph is famous for her romantic Christmas stories. Every December, readers devour her books of falling in love against the magical backdrop of the Christmas season. If only Libby believed in the magic herself…
Struggling to finish her current novel, Libby turns to her best friend and neighbour George Donaldson to cheer her up. But George also needs a bit of support himself. Nervous about getting back into the dating saddle after splitting from his wife, he and Libby strike a deal. She will teach George how to win over the ladies, and Libby will in turn be inspired to inject her novel with a good dose of romance.
As Libby and George explore the beautiful White Cliff Bay on a series of romantic Christmas-themed dates, Libby finds herself having more fun than she’s had in ages and…discovers feelings that she never knew she had for George.
But is it too late? Will George win someone else’s heart or can Libby act like the heroine in one of her stories and reach for her own love under the mistletoe this Christmas?
Those of you who know me will know I’m a complete sucker for a romantic Christmas story. This book had feel-good romance and festive spirit in spades! A broken-hearted hero, a heroine in need of some romantic inspiration and some Christmas magic. What more could you want?
Libby is an author, famous for her romantic Christmas books that make you want to curl up in front of the fire and lose yourself in them. She has to finish her current novel, but there’s one problem: she doesn’t quite believe in romance herself. Enter George Donaldson: her sexy next door neighbour who loves musicals and who Libby initially thinks is gay! He’s nursing a broken heart after a split from his wife and Libby decides to get him ready to burst back onto the dating scene. The only thing she doesn’t plan on is falling for him herself.
I loved this story. Libby was so likeable and easy to relate to. I sympathised with her struggling to finish her novel, being an author myself! Sometimes I wanted to reach into the novel and give her a hand with the writing. I loved George as well- what woman wouldn’t love a man who dances with an inflatable candy cane and has a vast collection of musicals on DVD? I’d have gone out with him myself!
George and Libby’s dates were so sweet! As they explored White Cliff Bay and spent more and more time together, you could see their relationship really start to blossom. I can be quite cynical when it comes to romance myself, like Libby, but even I found myself going ‘awww’ as I saw them getting together. I also liked that there were links to Holly’s other White Cliff Bay book, Christmas at Lilac Cottage. It was interesting to see some of the events in that book told from a different viewpoint!
