The world is about to be cloaked in darkness. Only one can stop the night.
Kellen St. James has spent his entire life being overlooked as an unwanted, ordinary, slightly geeky kid. That is until a beautiful girl, one who has haunted his dreams for the past eleven years of his life, shows up spinning tales of a prophecy. Not just any old prophecy either, but one in which Kellen plays a key role.
Suddenly, Kellen finds himself on the run through a Celtic underworld of faeries and demons, angels and gods, not to mention a really ticked off pack of hellhounds, all in order to save the world from darkness. But will they make it in time?
This book can be succinctly described in one word: WOW! Compelling characters, descriptive writing and a gripping plot make for a terrific book that will pull you in from the very first page. Kellen is portrayed as a slightly odd misfit of a guy who’s just about to graduate from university. Straight off, we learn that he marches to the beat of his own drum, studying literature instead of medicine behind his dad’s back. However, it soon becomes apparent that Kellen is part of a much bigger plan involving an ancient prophecy with links to Ireland. Cue lots of magic, mystery and mayhem as he, along with the beautiful Calienta, attempt to unravel the prophecy and discover what his true destiny is.
I instantly warmed to the two main characters, Kellen and Calienta. Although the story has a mystical setting, the characters seem very real and are easy to relate to. I loved the dynamic between them too; the connection between them was obviously deep and added a valuable dimension to the story. As a fan of all things faerie-like, I really enjoyed the addition of mystical creatures such as demons and faeries to the book. Who doesn’t love a bit of magic after all? Stephanie Keyes has created a world for you to jump into and characters to welcome you with open arms. Read this book, go on do it now!
